Downloading and working
with custom ICC Profiles for the magicolor 2210
|
| |
| Requirements |
| magicolor 2210 printer |
| Internal Hard Disk |
| FTP Client or KONICA MINOLTA Download Manager |
| ICC Profile |
| |
| Restrictions |
| This procedure is limited to magicolor printers
with internal hard disks. |
| |
| Note:
KONICA MINOLTA does not provide software or instructions to create
new ICC profiles, but does provide the instructions to replace or
add to the resident ICC profiles. |
| |
| Overview |
| Two destination profiles are implemented
in the magicolor 2210 printer, representing the two resolutions (600x600
and 1200x1200 dpi) available for color management on the printer.
The magicolor printers have the ability to substitute ICC output
profiles downloaded to its internal hard disk for any of the ICC destination
profiles resident in the printer's ROM.
Additionally, custom profiles can be downloaded for RGB Source,
Simulation, and Destination profiles, in addition to what is implemented
in the printer. |
| Instructions |
| To substitute new profiles for the internal
destination profiles: |
| 1. Create an ICC output profile that describes
the new color space of your magicolor 2210.
When creating profile, set the maximum ink limit to 200% in
the separations set-up of your profiling software (200% is the maximum
ink limit that the fuser of the magicolor 2210 can handle; exceeding
this amount can damage the fuser and produce undesirable image quality
artifacts). |
| The matrix below contains Agfa Balanced
Screening information for LPI and the screen angles for 600 and 1200
dpi (dots per inch) resolution. Both resolutions share the same LPI
and angles for the magicolor 6100. |
| 2. Rename the created profile following
a standard 8.3 filename/extension, using the guide below for the corresponding
resolution and halftone: |
| A1PCMYK.ICC 600x600 destination profile (AGFA (ABS) Halftone) |
| A3PCMYK.ICC 1200x1200 destination profile (AGFA (ABS) Halftone) |
|
| Note: |
| - If you are using the
Windows driver to print to the magicolor 2210 and want to
have the ability to switch back and forth between the destination
profile that came shipped with your printer and the custom profile
you created yourself, use a different naming convention than that
listed above. Downloading a profile with the above naming convention will over-ride
the factory profile as long as a profile with the same name is resident
on the hard disk. |
| - If
you are using the Macintosh driver to print to the magicolor
2210 and want to have the ability to switch back and forth between
the destination profile that came shipped with your printer and the
custom profile you created yourself, name your profile custdes1.icc,
custdes2.icc, or custdes3.icc. Downloading
a profile with the above naming convention will over-ride the factory
profile as long as a profile with the same name is resident on the
hard disk. |
| 3. Once you have created and properly
named your profile, download the file to your magicolor 2210 hard
disk using one of the following procedures. |
| FTP Client |
| You must first have a specified IP
address on your printer and on your host system in order to proceed
with this method. |
| a. Launch your FTP Client and set
the client for binary transfer. |
| b. Select the /USR directory (cd usr)
and download your profile. Refer to documentation for your FTP client
on the download commands/procedures. |
| Note:
you will not be able to use the DIR or LS commands from your FTP client
when connecting to the printer. |
| c. After the file has been
downloaded, turn off the printer and then restart it to register the
new profile. |
| a. Launch the KONICA MINOLTA Download
Manager application. |
| b. Select "Color Profile"
as the type of file to be downloaded. |
| c. Specify your magicolor 2110 printer. |
| d. Under "Download Options",
locate the profile to be downloaded by clicking the "Browse"
button and selecting the correct file. |
 |
| e. Choose "Download" to send the new
profile to the printer. |
| f. After the file has been downloaded,
turn off the printer and then restart it to register the new profile. |
| To work with downloaded profiles: |
| 1. Verify that the download was successful
by using telnet or the printer keypad to print a CMM Profile Page.
The CMM Profile Page provides a list of current profiles in
ROM and on the hard disk. (Administration
® Special
Pages ®
CMM Profile Page ®
Yes). |
| Macintosh Users: |
| Use the Custom 1, Custom 2, or Custom
3 setting for RGB Source to use the custrgb1.icc, custrgb2.icc, or
custrgb3.icc profile downloaded; for Simulation to use the custsim1.icc,
custsim2.icc, or custsim3.icc profile downloaded; for Destination
to use the custdes1.icc, custdes2.icc, or custdes3.icc profile downloaded. |
| Note: if
a new destination profile with the naming convention described in
step 2 has not been downloaded to the printer, the "Automatic" setting
for ICC Destination will use the destination profile on the printer's
ROM. |
 |
| Windows Users: |
| Use the "Manage
Profiles" button located in the Configure ICC Color Matching
window in the driver (Printer Properties ® Features tab
® Color
Options ® Configure
ICC Color) to manage the profiles: |
| a. Select "Manage Profiles"
for the appropriate profile (source, simulation, or destination). |
| b. Type a description as you
want it to appear in the pull-down menu. |
| c. Type
the filename of the downloaded profile (obtain this information from
the CMM Profile Page and enter the filename only, omitting the path
and location of the file). |
 |
| d. Select "Add", then
"Done". |
| e. Set the RGB Source, Simulation,
and Destination profiles you want to use. The profile downloaded
to the printer should now appear in the pull-down menu as the description
entered in the "Manage Profiles" window. |
| Note: if a new destination
profile with the naming convention described in step 2 has not been
downloaded to the printer, the "Automatic" setting for ICC Destination
will use the destination profile on the printer's ROM. |
